Version 3 Launched

Well, I finally think my redesign is good enough for the public eye. There are definitely some tweaks that I need to make, but it’s good enough for now.

I plan on tweaking stuff for the rest of the week and doing some clean up on some of the older articles.

This goal of this design was to adhere to a very strict grid, and I used the 16 column 960 grid.

View Grid (click on the grid to remove it)

I also wanted to have a stronger focus on some of the things that I can do with jQuery. Check out the accordion and recent work in the sidebar and the comments on the blog articles.

Well, that is enough for now. I’m sure I will have more to talk about later, but I have to run. Please give me your feedback. I by no means call myself a designer, which is why I tried to go simplistic.

Congratulations on the launch of the redesign.  I especially like write-ups of the projects, the landing page for Work, and the treatment of the Flickr photos.  Nice job!

I am not to keen on the search box and also if you click the down arrow on the sidebar your window scrolls down to the top of the list and then if try to scroll up it goes all weird.

@rmaspero-
Yes, when you are using the accordion on the side, it automatically scrolls so that it is in view. If you are trying to scroll while the automatic scrolling is happening, it will be a little weird. I guess the thought is that the user would not be trying to scroll at that exact moment.

What don’t you like about the search box?

@Trevor The search box feels a bit square and the border at the bottom is to thick, but loving the design.

@rmaspero-
Ah gotcha, thanks for the feedback!

i sort of like it. didn’t know about the 960 grid thing. why is this better than blueprint css?

@silicon loop-
I actually didn’t use any of the CSS from the 960 grid. I just used the actual grid. You can download the PSD file with the grid in it. I have never used a CSS framework because I think they are bloated.

Good job. It’s a really nice design… I particularly like the footer - the flickr photo feed is cool.

I really need to pull my finger out and do something with my own site, just never enough time! How do you manage everything with full time work and bits of freelance on the side?!

@Tom Hall-
Thanks, glad you approve of the redesign! It is pretty hard to manage everything. Especially while I was working on my redesign. I just made myself devote some time to the redesign each day and eventually it was ready.

Don’t worry, I’m not done with it either. I still have so much more I want to add.
