You’ve got a syntax error in your PHP. So go to that line in the file and fix the error.

Hell yea, this is what I need. I hate that cforms crap and all those garbage plugins. Makes it so hard to control the markup and figure out where the CSS is coming from. This is great, with the honeypot, jquery, and all the fixings...but simple too.

This really is not the appropriate place to ask about how to set up a local mail server. Try Googling it.

Hi Trevor,

In my previous posts, I mentioned that I have put my hotmail email account to replace the "me@somedomain.com" correctly, but the problem is I never receive the email (or probably) never send the email.

You said thats because I have not configured LOCAL MAIL SERVER. Can you please explain how? or at least shed some lights about directions to the solution of the problem using your codes that in fact never receive the email?

Thanks Trevor,
Andrew

I like this form quite a bit, but the javascrpt not working made it pretty dysfunctional: so I removed the call to the javascript and let the template's conditional structure to display the appropriate page. Simpler and even less bloat, which is what I was looking for in the first place when I ditched my contact form plugin in favor of this solution.

Looks like the new version of jQuery prevents the form from sliding up any more.

Pity really. If anyone has fix, I'd be interested.

@Huroman-
So just check the values of that form field and send to whomever you want depending upon which option was selected.

I’m sorry I’m not going to write the code for you unless you would like to hire me.

Thank you for your reply and sorry for the bad tags.

Well, your scripts runs perfect but i want to send the email/comment to different email's departments (Support, Sales, Business, Reports, etc). I've been reading and trying but nothing.

I need an option to select recipients by drop box menu or radio option, doesn't matter. This is the idea:

- Select one Department:
Option 1: demo@demo.com
Option 2: demo2@demo.com
Option 3: demo2@demo.com
and so...

The idea (it doesn't work, of course):
http://huriata.com/cuentas/be/contacto/formulario

Thank you in advance. If it works, i could post all the code to share it and help others.

I miss the code to insert it in this post, sorry =o

The example:

	Contactar a

	Ventas
	Comentarios
	Dudas sobre el negocio
	Soporte de Producto
	Conocer el negocio
	Iridología
	Biomagnetismo
	Abrir un Centro de Distribución

Do I need to add a couple line code like this?

if($sendCopy == true) {
	$subject = 'You emailed Your Name';
	$headers = 'From: Your Name ';
	mail($email, $subject, $body, $headers);
}

Thanks for excellent article!

The form validation does not work when using AutoFill http://github.com/joemsak/jQuery-AutoFill It thinks that there's text already in the field (expect for textareas). Any idea how to get it to play along?

Nice to see so well written articles and friendly comments :)

Okaay, I feel silly. I over-thought this and overlooked that I had value="text" in the option tag when it should have been value="". Can't believe I didn't see that. Anyway, the answer to the question is yes it is possible.

Hello Trevor,
Thank you very much for taking the time to contribute to the community.

My question is: Is it possible to create validation for drop-down menus? I tried leaving the first option blank to play off of if(subjectVal == '') and tried using the id selector in the and tags for the menu. I got nothing. I'm new to this so that's as far as I can go.

This is Firebug. If you actually read the JavaScript, you can see that the thank you message appears no matter what. It does not checked to see if the request is successfully completed before displaying it.

I don’t know how else to say it: the problem is that you do not have a local mail server configured.

Thanks Trevor,

Im sorry, im a newbie, what do you mean about Firebug console? where it is located?

BTW, Trev, this is to clarify about the error message: Warning: mail() [function.mail]: Failed to connect to mailserver at “localhost, an so on, on line 56

That error message appear WHEN the Java Script is NOT exist.

When your Java Script is exist, the error message is not appear. When the link to your JS is exist, the Thank You message will appear smoothly (Only after that, no emails received)

Remember that error message appears when I remove the JavaScript link at Header.Php.

When the link to JavaScript at Header.Php is not removed, the process runs smoothly, Thank You message appears as usual:
Thanks! Your email was successfully sent. I check my email all the time, so I should be in touch soon.

BUT THE ONLY PROBLEM, the email never received, or perhaps never sent.

Any brainstorm?

You are using Wamp to run Apache/PHP/MySQL correct? You need to have a mail server, hence this error:

Trev,

What do you mean with Local Mail Server? You mean something in PhpMyAdmin? or the SETTING at Windows Live Mail 2009

Thanks once again for your reply

I do locally with Wamp. I'm sorry there is no link, other than http:/localhost

When I experimented by removing (deleting) these 2 lines from header.php"

Followed by refresh, input my nama again in the input box, click send, then there is ERROR message:

Warning: mail() [function.mail]: Failed to connect to mailserver at "localhost, an so on, on line 56

FYI, line 56 on my Contact-Form.Php file, has the following:

mail($emailTo, $subject, $body, $headers);

Is this the one that you try to diagnose? (you asked: Is it working without JavaScript enabled?) Then seemingly the answer is NO.

Kindly please suggest, concrete steps that could solidly solve the problem.

Thank you Trev

Firstly, thanks so much for your reply. Thank you

I used Windows Live Mail. And the email address I use to replace the me@somedomain.com is Hotmail account.

In this experiment, both the email adress that replace me@somedomain.com and the email address that I inputed in the input box, are listed on the Windows Live Mail. So I believe, these 2 emails have been recognized by the Windows Live Mail

And as you know, the Windos Live Mail has Junk Email Folder. So I think even if the 2 emails are not recognized, they will still arrive as junk emails

BUT, they are not, Never arrive

Perhaps there is a solution for this problem

Thank you Trev

I copied all your codes above, modified the email addres. Everything seems correct, including the <script type="text/javascript" src="<?php bloginfo('template_directory in the header.php

BUT, unfortunately, I NEVER RECEIVE the email

Can you please solve the problem, Trevor?

Yeah, I guess that was a stupid question.
I never considered a user turning off javascript. (Newer browsers, like Chrome for Mac don't even have that option available. Not that this is a reason for not having a backup validation, just an observation. )

@Trevor
Why are there two forms of validation, jQuery and PHP? If jQuery validates the fields, then why do you need to have all that extra code on the back end?

Maybe you call the mail function twice? I have no idea I can’t see your PHP.

Great tutorial! Everything works like a charm with one little but bothering exception: the mail is sent twice.

The funny thing is that i get 2 different emails: one containing only the standard fields (name, email, comments) and another one containing the standard fields and all my custom added fields.

Please help me out cause I am so lost in here...

No jquery, it is only php (or at least that was my intention)
